This November, Tennesseans have an opportunity to put a strong taxpayer protection into our State Constitution. I encourage you to vote YES on Amendment 2 and prohibit Tennessee from imposing a state property tax.

You work hard to own your home, build your business, or maintain your family’s farm. State government should respect that hard work and protect your investment from an additional layer of taxation.

Amendment 2 would amend Article II, Section 28 of the Tennessee Constitution to prohibit the legislature from levying, authorizing, or otherwise permitting a state tax on real, personal, or mixed property. That means putting this protection directly into our Constitution, where future legislatures cannot undo it simply by passing a new tax bill.

This amendment addresses state property taxes. Existing county and city property taxes would remain in place. The goal is to prevent state government from adding another property tax on top of what property owners already pay locally.

As your state representative, I believe fiscal responsibility starts with government living within its means. Protecting taxpayers should be a lasting commitment, and Amendment 2 gives voters the opportunity to make that commitment part of Tennessee’s Constitution.

When you cast your ballot this November, make sure you complete the constitutional amendment questions and vote YES on Amendment 2.

No state property tax. Ever.
